Check out this image I saw on Instagram posted by Traditional Home.  Do you love it?!  I especially love the Faux Zebra print rug.  You know what I thought right?  I bet that would be easy to recreate this look and make a DIY Zebra Rug.

DIY Zebra Rug

So check this out, somebody already did an awesome DIY Zebra Rug video.  Yea!!! Hey, why reinvent the wheel!  I would just replace the brown/black paint with a silver, gunmetal or even a metallic gold paint.  Or how about rose-gold?

Here’s what you will need for this project:

  • 9′ x 12′ Drop Cloth
  • Kilz Primer (paint on)
  • Paint brush
  • Craft paint
  • Clear Polyurethane  (paint on)
  • Rug pad (optional)
  • Scissors
What color paint would you use?

Ok, let’s get to it.  Check out Danika Herrick of Happy Hour’s step by step tutorial for a DIY Zebra Rug.

How Much?

Now consider this; a 9′ x 12′ drop cloth would only run you $19.99 or less (you could also use artist canvas or a heavy weight muslin).  A pint of primer, $13.59.  The fabric craft paint is about $2.99 a bottle (figure on 4-6 bottles depending on how many coats you apply.  What’s left the polyurethane which should be around $7.84.  So all in this project should come in at about $45.00, maybe less.  I’d say that’s quite a bargain for a room size area rug show stopper.

Let’s see $450.00 or $45.00!

Did you catch the table?

By the way, if you are interested in duplicating the look of the coffee table sitting on this magnificent rug, I did some sleuthing and found a few options to get the same look …. but for less of course.

Acrylic Coffee Table

I can’t tell if this is a glass or acrylic piece.  Luckily I found options in both materials.  These tables come in various sizes, so depending on your space, you can probably find one to fit your needs.

Don’t have room for the coffee table?  Well, maybe you could use an accent table.  Equally as beautiful.  Check this out, it’s very similar to the one in the picture.

Oh, and here’s that scrumptious (faux) pillow.  (I know I couldn’t help myself).

    1. Thanks for the comment Siobhan! Yeah, I think that would be really pretty in pink, especially a metallic pink.
