QUICKIE PROJECT: DIY Tabletop Candle Box

Candle Box

Hey, guys!  I think I may have found the perfect Valentine’s Day centerpiece.  I’m calling it my Candleplace.  It’s really a tabletop Candle Box.  When I saw it, I pictured it as the perfect dining table centerpiece.  Well, I think I have found a budget friendly DIY dupe that you can whip up in just a few minutes and have stunning results.  Stay tuned if you would like to set a beautiful romantic Valentine setting.

Here’s how to make a DIY Candle Box

Like I said this one is easy guys!  There are only two ingredients so not only is it DIY but it is budget friendly too.

This candle box caught my eye on Pinterest and I knew I had to have it.  I did a bit of research and found that an Australian company produces this one.  It’s not really that expensive at $37 (without candles or shipping), but you know me.  I just had to see if I could do it for less (it’s more fun that way).

What do basketballs and candles have in common?  Stumped?

The Base

On one of my trips to Michael’s, I noticed the perfect component to get the same look as the original.  Hold on to your hats!  It’s a Basketball Display Case.  Yep, you heard me right.  A Basketball Display Case.  Well, I knew that it was really my Candle Box in disguise.

Now before you get too excited, before this Basketball Display Case can transform into a Candle Box we first have to deal with the fact that it’s even more than the original at $49.99.  No problem!  I just happen to be armed with a 60% coupon, so it’s really only $19.99.  Ha, bet you thought you caught me!

Ok, what else do we need?  Oh yeah!  Candles*.  Can’t have a candle box without them right?  Well, Michael’s has those too.  This set by Basic Elements is $19.99 (but really only $8, if you use that same 60% coupon).  The set has three large candles and 12 smaller votive and tea lights (you can use those somewhere else).  Anyway, the big ones are a nice size and will fit perfectly in our candle box.

Some of these flicker candles are so realistic now that you really have to get up on them to tell that it’s not real.

*CAUTION: I would not recommend using regular candles in this Candle Box as the display case may not withstand the heat and might be flameable.

Well, believe it or not, guys that’s it!

For about $28.00 (and two coupons) you can create a beautiful centerpiece for Valentine’s Day.

BTW: After Valentine’s Day your Candleplace can live beautifly on a coffee or end table.

Tip for Re-using Coupons

I used coupons to purchase the components of this and most of my projects.  They help me save a lot of money!  So I wanted to pass along a BBS tip.

Above I mentioned that you could use the same coupon twice.  While that is true, there is a trick to it.  Most retailers will not allow you to use the same paper coupon twice in one transaction.  However, if you use an electronic coupon you can usually reuse them unlimited times (until they expire).

One more thing.  If you do want to reuse your electronic coupon, it may be necessary to make separate purchases and/or come back on another day.  Or, you can do like me and take your daughter with you and have her buy the other item.  Now that’s a smart way to use a child! LOL

What do you think of my Candleplace?  Are you planning a romantic table setting for Valentine’s Day?  Please leave a comment below and tell me what you are creating.
